Osoyoos Gelato

Some of our creations haven't done so well. A number of these flavours were either too weird that nobody wanted to try it them, or they only gleaned a very modest following. Others were really quite marvellous, but for one reason or other didn't sell well. We try, we learn.

avocado
gelato
Superb! Really rich, thick, and creamy, with a delicate nutty avocado flavour, beautiful light green colour. We don't understand why it wasn't more popular.
black sesame
gelato
Nice flavour, very popular in Asian countries. Just didn't fly: many people didn't like the slightly bitter taste of black sesame.
carrot ginger
sorbetto
Funny sounding combination, but quite delicious. We still have people occasionally ask for it, but it just wasn't popular enough.
cashew
or cashew caramel
gelato
Cashews are considered a luxury nut, but tasty as this creation is, peanut butter gelato sells at least 10x better! Retired.
cassata
gelato
A very popular flavour in Italy, but here it never did well.
date
gelato
Delicious, but not popular. Even when we made it as "brandied date" it wouldn't move much.
dulce de leche
gelato
Extremely popular flavour in South American countries, but here never developed a following. Caramel, and our later sea salt caramel, are waaaaayyyyyy more successful.
fig
gelato
Absolutely delicious. None of us have any idea why it doesn't sell, but there you go!
garam masala
gelato
A delicate spicy flavour, yellowish colour. We made it too strong at first, and not many liked it. Later incarnations were much milder and more folks found it very appealing, just not enough of them to warrant making it.
grapefruit campari
sorbetto
It never caught on. Ruby red grapefruit is always a popular flavour, and campari adds a delicate touch. It is also somewhat bitter and red, but it is an expensive ingredient, so if it doesn't move better with than without, then we'll forget it.
haskap
sorbetto
This new "in" berry, so-called "superfruit" has gorgeous colour, but not a particularly distinctive flavour. It is also very pricey and has been our most expensive flavour to produce. Probably a good thing that not many people took a fancy to it. We have stopped making it.
kiwi
sorbetto
It has been near to impossible for us to find nice ripe kiwis, and the frozen ones aren't very nice either, so we'll give this one a miss as well.
orange
sorbetto
Why is blood orange so popular, but orange is not? To us they taste virtually the same, but we'll let popularity decide.
red beet
gelato
Our wonderful Red Ace beet gelato has been very popular at Covert Farms, who requested we make this flavour in the first place. But at Roberto's it is hard to convince people to even sample it! We still make it from time to time, but it isn't a regular feature.
saskatoon
sorbetto
Another fruit that is hard to get for some reason, and besides, it has never been overly popular.
turmeric
gelato
Never caught on, not even in the mildest version we tried. And turmeric is sooooo healthy! Oh well.
