Not an overly eventful day, the trail continued through more open country: we’re getting closer to civilization. But there were a number of interpretive signs that were interesting to read. Funny how little there is left of the original structures and remarkable that there is nowhere any evidence or mention of water towers like they used to have on the Kettle Valley Rail line in BC.<\/p>\n

Had smoko break in Toogoolawah: coffee and some TimTams. It’s but a small community, but there are THREE pubs in a 2-block section on the main street!<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

All remaining bridges have been blocked off and detours go around them<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

More and more termite mounds again, but they aren’t as tall and impressive as they were up north<\/p>\n

Little Euphorbia plants I see regularly, relatives of the poinsettia<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

I arrived in Esk at 10:00, a really short and easy day. And that was it for rail trails. No more. It was nice while it lasted. The most interesting section by far was Yarraman – Blackbutt – Linville. But I’ve appreciated it all, it is really nice having to deal with mostly 1% grades and absolutely no traffic, even though the countryside wasn’t always overly interesting.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow I’ll be just following the Hampton Esk Road to the top of the range, not that far but a lot of climbing. And I’ll reconnect to the BNT again.<\/p>\n
