I started out reasonably early at 6:30. Had to add more sealant (again) at my front tire. Who says Stan’s is the best? I think I’m going back to good old green Slyme, because I know that it does not dry out like Stan’s and other latex based sealants do.<\/p>\n

The road immediately started to climb, but fresh in the morning I can handle up to 11%. Later in the day, as it heats up and I grow more tired the slopes I can handle go down to 7-8%. The road itself was in reasonably good shape, but the higher I got the either it became. There had been one vehicle coming down and one going up until a NSW Forestry guy came down to check on the condition of a pretty well extinguished brush fire that was started by lighting 9 days ago. I had already passed the area and there was still lots smoldering, but no flames.<\/p>\n

A couple of hours later he came back up the road and offered me a ride. I happily accepted. His name is Steven and he has worked for the NSW Forestry Service for 7 years. Exactly what route we followed I’m not sure. It wasn’t the BNT which I would have reconnected to at the top of the range. And the road was incredibly rough. Yet he drove at a good clip, claiming he normally drives at least 80 kph, but with bike and BOB in the back I think he only did 50. The road was so rough that even downhill sections would have been nasty to do on my bike.<\/p>\n

We went by Vista Point where Steven wanted to check if there were any other fires or smoke visible. It is all State Forest and National Park around there, but he saw nothing new.<\/p>\n

I managed to do 32k in 5\u00bd hours of riding on my own, with 1350m of uphill, the most to date. And we climbed a lot more in the truck, so it would be safe to say that I would have been pretty miserable without this “rescue”. We went by Mt Chaelundi, the highest point around here, but then took a road farther east than I would have gone. And then Steven dropped me off at this beautiful river only a few hundred meters before the Grafton Armadale Road. There is even a little bench to sit on! The water is fresh though, alright going in when the sun is on it, but once the sun went behind the trees I chickened out. Tomorrow will just be 35 kms of paved road to Ebor.<\/p>\n

Total 32k 5:30h 1350m+ 555m-<\/p>\n

And today I went through the 3,000 km<\/strong> mark. That includes kms in and around towns, not just BNT distance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
