Holy crap, I only made it to Bridle Creek, about ½ way to Mareeba, which was the intent. But it was a lot of pushing uphill with slopes of up to 25%. By 2pm I reached Bridle Creek and decided against going further. The day started at 20º, high humidity, so sweating like a pig (do pigs sweat so much?), and it was 35º by the time I called it quits.

Also there were numerous locked gates where I had to unhitch BOB and take off heavy water bottles to be able to lift bike and BOB over. Very slow going indeed, and of course I am nowhere nearly in shape yet!

I have so far been able to avoid these innocent looking strings. I believe they are called Lawyer Vine, they just won’t let go, and can quickly rip your clothing and skin to shreds.
Total kms today: 14. Uphill pushing is a bit of a guess because my bicycle computer only shows 250m, while the highest point was already 300m above my starting elevation. Plus all the downs and ups I reckon it might me more like 600-700m. Doesn’t sound like much, but it was very hard work.
Take care out there on those long stretches Rob. Remember the cassowaries might look pretty. But they can be aggressive. So be wary of them. And look out for the drop bears!! Just joking on that one.
