Irvinebank, rest day

Tuesday, 20 November 2018

Rest day in Irvinebank. More visiting with Bev, one of the blokes I met yesterday and who is also staying at this totally free town campground.

There are showers, toilets, boil-it water, a few picnic tables of which I confiscated one and shade under mango trees. The odd windfall is actually quite edible. Bev is from here originally and can recount all kinds of historic information about this old mining area. This morning we visited a old buddy of his who is now retired and had a little ad hoc museum with all kinds of mining machinery.

Brian, the museum operator, and Bev

What makes his museum different from any other similar ones I’ve seen is that his old machines all work! An amazing job.

Now a pie and couple of pints at the tavern, they don’t serve real food except on weekends. Washing some sweaty clothes will be next. So easy to fill your day even when staying in one spot!
