Murgon

Wednesday 9 Jan 2019

Well that was the first day of rail trailing. It was more uphill than down, a lot of rough gravel, some carpeted with grass and other vegetation, so it was a lot slower going than I had anticipated. But 1 – 2% grades are very manageable and enjoyable.

The only swampy crossing

I had smoko break in Goomeri, coffee and muffin, and reached Murgon at 11:30. Nice timing. It had been raining off and on all night, but the last bit was just as I woke up and it has been threatening but dry since.

Murgon has a municipal campground which is free with a $10 key deposit. I’ll make that a donation though since it is really a nice and well kept facility. I also bought an apple turnover at the bakery opposite the visitor information, holy shit, HUGE!

And that’s with a few bites gone already!

Even though I can easily handle lots of calories these days, it almost made me sick eating it all. I reckon I’ll have a salad dinner tonight. Ha!

Apparently today was the “tough” section of trail, tomorrow it will be all paved to Kingaroy.
