Murphy’s Creek

Wednesday 26 Jan 2019

It was a beautiful spot yesterday at Ravensbourne National Park.

A nosy King parrot

One of the many impressive Sydney Blue Gum trees

Today started with an immediate steep start of 700m at 11% towards Gus Beutel Lookout.

But otherwise the route today followed gravel roads that, after initially a fair bit of up and down, mostly went downhill. Good thing too because Humberdross Road has a grade of 15 to 20% and I’m glad I didn’t have to go the other direction.

It all looks very different from 15 years ago when these were narrow and rough little tracks!

In Murphy’s Creek this machine was idling on a side track, but there was nobody around to ask what it is for. Track maintenance I suppose, but how?

I am now settled in at Lynne Anderson’s “Lazy Acres”. She used to run a B&B, but gave that up and has been making decadent spicy chocolate bars called “Seatonfire” for quite a few years now. Last time I passed her place without stopping in and she was very upset that I was the first BNT traveler not to stop by. I met her a day or so later when I was in Toowoomba for a few days waiting for the rain to stop. We have stayed in contact and Gwen and I visited her in 2009 also.

I’ll probably spend a few days at Lynne’s. I mailed a number of food, clothing and parts parcels here and now I need to figure out what I am going to need in the coming weeks and what is surplus that needs to be forwarded on again.
