Charnwood #2

Friday 8 Mar 2019

I hadn’t expected my gracious hosts to give up their very own bed and bedroom to accommodate me! I sputtered and objected but they insisted that I should have the most comfortable bed in the house after camping out for almost four months. And I must say that I slept like a log last night. It was also blissfully quiet after two weeks of caravan parks that are often located right beside busy roads.

Around noon today I met up with Col and Carrol, the couple from Perth who I met in Armidale for the first time and have now seen again twice since. They are staying at the showgrounds and they went for a tour at the Australian Institute of Sports, or AIS. We met there at the AIS Cafe there and caught up on each other’s news. A nice visit, as they have been each and every time. I rode there via the extensive pathway system, partially the same way as I came in yesterday. So going back home afterwards I had chosen a slightly different route but somehow got on the wrong side of a road, which meant I followed the same path back again. Got to pay attention to the directions better next time!

I also did my laundry today, only the second time in a real washing machine, the first time being in Murphy’s Creek at Lynne’s place. I have been hand washing and rinsing almost daily, but it was due time for a more thorough job.

Malcolm and I are going to do an overnighter ride, probably to Gundaroo and back. There is a nice cafe, a pub, and a good pizza place as well, I’m told. Not sure yet if we’re heading out tomorrow or Sunday because the weather forecast was a bit iffy for tomorrow. We’ll see. I’m sure we’ll fill in our time appropriately.

Son Kenny with his newest proto type electric skate board. He says it can go 60 kph, not something I’m keen on trying out for myself!
