Left again just after 6, gentle ups and downs along the highway to Mt Garnett. A bit of a deviation of the trail and a bit of a long it, but mobile didn’t work in Innot and I had to make some calls. Gunnawarra answered and gave me permission to camp at the old homestead with never dry dam. Unfortunately I couldn’t reach the next couple of stations, so I’ll just have to hope for the best when it comes to water supplies.

The road was mostly paved, only the last 5 km or so on dirt. Not much traffic.

I arrived at the abandoned old homestead at 11 and decided to stay.

The house is quite run down, but it has a beautiful concrete porch on which to put up the tent, under the overhanging roof. And the dam is fantastic. Much more water in it than I remember from last time and I went for many a swim. There is an old mango tree, again no ripe fruit, but also a little kumquat (sp?) bush with deliciously tart little fruits. I picked a small supply for mouth lubrication during the next few days. Air temp was 36ยบ early afternoon. Cannot imagine what next week’s predicted heat wave will bring!
Late afternoon another refreshing rain shower.
Total 53 km, 280 m uphill
