Kabra

For whatever reason I again cannot upload pictures today, and my entries from the last couple of days won’t even upload without any pictures. What is going on? Resetting phone does not help today either.

Okay, this comment makes no sense now, because today, Friday 14 Dec while in Rocky, I finally managed to upload!

Stanwell Power Station

Anyway, I arrived in Kabra at 11:00, nice time. Set up my tent at the Kabra Hotel, no charge as long as you buy something.

I left the Fitzroy River at 5:15 just as the sun appeared over the horizon. I reckon I could set the alarm for even a bit earlier, 4:00 or 3:45. It takes about an hour to pack up and have breakfast but it only gets light about 30 minutes before sunrise.

But an hour later the clouds moved in and kept the temperature very pleasant. If only my saddle sores were as cooperative! Tomorrow I’ll make a dash out to Rocky and will hopefully find that Aussie Butt Cream that Malcolm was talking about. I need some other stuff too and will take some time to visit the Botanical gardens and mayhap the zoo which is right beside it.

After setting up the tent, freshening up and having a few low alcohol beers it started to pour, but not for very long. There is a cyclone headed this way though and Malcolm suggested I perhaps should stay put for a few days until the storm has passed. I might just do that but will certainly keep an eye on the weather forecast.

As I just finished only my first bottle of methylated spirits, I noticed that it is NOT recommended for spirit burners. Isn’t that odd? I was always led to believe this was the fuel of choice for alcohol burners like Trangia! Is that perhaps why I have such trouble getting a nice blue flame instead of this horrendously sooty yellow one?
