Mackay

Wednesday, 5 December 2018

After 5 days in Townsville I took the Greyhound bus to Mackay yesterday. After that it was a 1 hour ride to the caravan park at Blacks Beach. It’s beautiful but there is nothing much there.

I first choose a super camping spot right overlooking the beach, but it was terribly windy and a forecast of thunder showers overnight, so upon the advice of a couple of caravan campers I moved onto the pad and under the roof of the mini camp kitchen.

There were indeed a couple of thunder showers moving through and I was reasonably protected, although it was noisy with the tent flapping and the rain on the roof.

Today more rain in the forecast and also for the next 5 days. COP of 90 – 100% and precipitation of 50 – 150mm each day! Hmmm. Don’t want to be stuck here since there isn’t much to do and too far from town. Not the best choice of campgrounds. It’s 107 kms to Nebo, so I am really hoping to fetch a ride at least part of the way. I may have to ride to the beginning of the road towards Nebo, which is still about 30 km from here.

There is a nice Tavern though where I spent some time last night.
