I forgot to mention yesterday that I took the direct road from Kabra to MtM, rather than via Bouldercomb which is the official BNT route. But I remember from 15 years ago that the goat track from Bouldercomb to MtM was a masochist’s dream, so there was no point attempting that again.

Herb garden by the camp kitchen
Today was a rain day. It pretty well rained on and off all day long, sometimes gently, other times heavy. I spent the day in the company of two lovely German ladies, Marion and Christiana, all morning under cover in the camp kitchen, then exploring in the afternoon. They have a camper van and I rode shotgun in the back. We visited the mining and everything else museum, then the railroad museum (which I had been to already), then a drive to the mine area, which is mostly fenced off, and then to the supermarket to get ingredients for pizzas.

At the railway museum there is a piano in the ladies washroom. Of course! (It was a donation and they didn’t have room for it anywhere else)

The Mt Morgan mine was in 1890 the biggest and richest gold mine in the world! My German companions.
In the evening we made pizzas in the camp kitchen pizza oven (all camp kitchens should have one!) and consumed them accompanied with a bottle of wine. We managed to turn a pretty miserable day into a very enjoyable event.
By evening the rain stopped! We had been considering sleeping in the enclosed laundry room, but our tents were fine, still dry inside. Not bad little REI tent!
