Surprise! As I couldn’t fall asleep last night I was looking at the map and decided to deviate off the trail and head to Greenvale. I just couldn’t see myself trudging to Camel Creek, Kangaroo Hills, Running River, Kirkland Downs etc. in this heat. It should have been about 60k, but turned out to be more like 70. And it was stinking hot, so after crossing the Burdekin River I had zero energy left. Every tiny little uphill was utterly exhausting. Some nice ladies with kids went for a swim in the river as well and rescued me on their way back. I was just 5k short of the tiny town…..

Valley of Lagoons

I’m hoping to catch a ride to Charters Towers tomorrow and then reconnect to the BNT at Mingela. I may stay in CT for a couple of days to reorient and adjust my planning and schedule. I want this ride to be fun, relatively relaxing, and not an ordeal or test of my own capabilities. (Which seem to be rather limited it seems, this time around)
Total 66k, 425 uphill
Rest up Rob. The heat up there can really take it out of you.
Yes, it’s proving to be quite a hindrance. Trying to hitch a ride to Charters Towers but there isn’t a lot of traffic going by here in little Greenvale.
